Minter Gardens Wedding from Mikaela Ruth Photography
I’m in an entirely inspired zone of pretty right now, putting together this week’s inspiration. Today’s wedding is brought to you by the ever talented Mikaela Ruth Photography capturing a beautiful BC wedding held at Minter Gardens. If you don’t know already, I am in love with succulents, so it’s no wonder this wedding caught my eye with it’s fresh and soft centerpieces and blue/green/white palette.
What was your overall inspiration for your wedding colors/decor?
While helping my sister plan her wedding last summer, I saved any ideas I liked from wedding blogs (including Wedding Obsession!) and sites like Pinterest in a folder on my computer and when I would go through it, I noticed that most of my pictures had the same kind of theme with neutrals, greys and greens. I love hydrangeas and succulents so right away I knew they were something I wanted to include in the wedding. For the most part everything was built around those two things! I love the grey/blue of the succulents so my mom and I spent some time looking through fabric stores from here to Vancouver to find “just the right shade” of blue since I wanted more of a grey/blue than a blue/grey color (my husband was so confused when I told him what I wanted for the dress color…as he was reading this over he said he still isn’t sure what the difference was). All the paper goods for the wedding also centered around these colors. I spent a lot of time looking through websites trying to find an invitation that “worked” and nothing fit the picture I had in my mind…thankfully my sister is a photographer so I talked to her about my ideas and she was able to help design all the invitations, ceremony and reception programs and seating charts to work perfectly with the overall look! The reception venue was at Minter Gardens in Rosedale and has huge windows on all sides that looks into a garden so I wanted to keep the decor very clean and light with enough color that the room was still warm.
What was your favorite wedding moment?
Our favorite part of the day was the time we spent in between the ceremony and reception with our wedding party. My sisters had never met Ben’s groomsmen but I know my sisters and I knew they would be a lot of fun, so I didn’t worry at all. At one point in the afternoon while driving around in the limo I asked one of Ben’s groomsmen if he would have let Ben marry me, had he known what my sisters were like and he replied “I would have told him to get married sooner!” The reception was also wonderful, family and friends on both sides were able to come from out of province and Ben’s granddad came from England as well, plus my large family from here in BC made for a very enjoyable atmosphere and a great night to remember!
How did you two meet?
My husband and I met in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2009. My younger sister lived there for a few years and while I was in university I moved out there to spend the summer with her. Ben goes to the same church as we do there but we didn’t really talk much until a youth day organized by our church in mid-July. My mom and aunts insisted I and two of my other single cousins attend…since I was the last of us three to get married and all of us met our husbands/wife through a youth day, I guess it worked out well for us!:) Ben and I met for coffee the following week and ended up sitting in Starbucks for a few hours talking about everything and anything..We dated long-distance for two years, thankfully with long phone conversations every night and many flights back and forth for holidays or long weekends to keep us going. He moved to BC a year ago once he was done university and began teaching here in Chilliwack. It’s hard that there will always be one of us missing family and friends but it’s so great to finally be together!
Any advice for future brides/grooms to be?
Before the wedding day everybody said to me “just enjoy the day, it goes so fast!” and I have now become one of those people:) The day truly flies by and there are so many things going on around you and so many thoughts and emotions and feelings going on inside that the day is like a top-speed blur. I’m so happy we had a videographer for the reception because it helps to remember the things I’ve already forgotten! What I would say to other brides and grooms: relax. Your planning is done and things will go smoothly and if you forgot something- nobody but you will know and you will be too busy enjoying the day to care:) You both look stunning in your dress and tux and you are surrounded by people who love you. Stop and look around, there will be no other day like this one.
