Hay Adams Wedding of Evan and Katie

After a dazzling proposal under the 4th of July lit sky, Evan and Katie were married at the Top of the Hay at the Hay Adams Hotel on October 4th, 2015. The two met by chance at the dog park and were introduced by their ‘fur babies’, Gus and Harley. Their big day was one that will never be forgotten. Having lost her mother at a young age, it was very important to Katie to weave in her mother’s vibrant spirit into as many aspects of the wedding as possible. She was the inspiration behind a lot of the beautiful moments that everyone experienced that day. The venue choice was easy as the couple wanted to be married somewhere patriotic. Evan is an American hero, having served in Iraq in Korea and is currently enlisted in the US Army at The Pentagon. Katie is a South Carolina native, so there is a lot of Charleston influence on the food, flowers, and décor. Since the two met in Washington DC, The Hay Adams was the perfect choice.

After being escorted up the aisle by her Dad to Here Comes the Sun played by an acoustic trio led by Phil Kominski and his wife, Katie and Evan were married overlooking the White House by their best friend. The altar held two colorful flower pieces, and Katie’s late grandmother’s prayer book that was carried by her on her wedding day in the 1940’s.

The Top of the Hay was then transformed into a vibrant wonderland with gorgeous freshly picked garden inspired flower arrangements. Each dinner plate was adorned with a Camellia leaf from the bride’s father’s award winning South Carolina garden. After a tear-jerking toast by the father of the bride, the guests enjoyed Pierogis, a tilt to the bride and groom’s Polish heritage, and then delicious Southern fried chicken followed by a cake that looked too beautiful to eat. The signature champagne cocktail was named, ‘Mama Bott’s Bubbles’ after the Bride’s mom.

Then it was time for the Lloyd Dobler Effect to make some noise. The couple had their first dance to Van Morrison’s, Crazy Love. Guests boogied all night long to the live band playing everything from Phil Collins to Snoop Dog while enjoying Moscow Mules from the hockey inspired ice luge (a gift from the bride to the groom). Family and friends enjoyed photo opps with the magnificent back drop of the White House. The night was truly filled with the most magnificent energy, love. Everything was absolutely perfect.
