Today’s story is “Bobcat City”!
Back to a hot spot where I’ve called in 8 gobblers in the first 3 days. The fourth day was a complete bust, so I figured today would be a good day for a turkey to die. At about 5:45 the hens below me started chattering as usual, but nothing gobbled. I called intermittently, hoping the gobblers were there and would finish up with their regular girls and stroll on up to me. At around 7:00 AM I caught movement to my extreme left.
There stood a bobcat at just under 25 yards. I’ve only seen one in my life before today, and I wasn’t totally sure of it. but today, no mistake. But that’s not the whole story!
Later on I called in another bobcat about a half mile away. That one upset a gobbler that was on his way to me. I’m guessing it wasn’t the same cat, but possibly a mated pair.
That’s one of the reasons spring gobbler season is so exciting. You never know what you’ll call in. I’ve called in bears, coyotes, and now two bobcats in one day.
Back at it tomorrow. With those hens still there, the gobblers can’t be far away.
