Early Migratory Bird Season begins Monday with Dove and Canada Geese Opener
Monday, September 1st marks the opening day of dove hunting. The total length of the dove hunting season has increased from 70 to 90 days. In response to a hunter survey, the popular early autumn segment will last 2 and a half full months.The first segment will run from September 1st through November 15th. Hunting hours will be from noon until sunset during this first segment. There is a 15 bird daily bag limit on mourning doves and the shorter dove season segments will be around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
The September statewide resident Canada geese hunting opener also falls on September 1st. Shooting hours during the September goose hunt are one half hour before sunrise until one half hour after sunset. On days when youth waterfowl hunts occur, shooting hours end at sunset.
Migratory game bird hunters are required to carry a migratory game bird license. The cost for this license is $3.70 for residents and $6.70 for non-residents. A general hunting license as well as a federal migratory bird and conservation (duck) stamp is also required for hunters 16 and older.
