Vintage Inspired Brock House Wedding in Vancouver
We’re closing off the week with a day that was so entirely full of love captured by Wonderlust Photography . Marnie and Laila both wanted to be by the water on their wedding day, so the Brock House in Vancouver was the perfect spot for their vintage inspired wedding, with its waterfront view.
Marnie shares some of her thoughts of the day:
“Because Laila grew up on the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine Coast in BC and I lived in San Francisco for over 10 years before moving to Vancouver, it was important to us to get married near the water. We were both inspired by the gorgeous beach and mountain views at the Brock House. Additionally, we wanted a vintage feel to our wedding s other fact that the Brock House is an authentic Tudor replica heritage mansion, fit nicely into our waterfront, vintage wedding theme.
Our original inspiration was Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby and so peacock feathers, picure frames, vintage suitcases, decorative hat boxes and bird cages were arranged on and around the cards and gifts tables. Heart and Butterfly shaped table confetti made from vintage newsprint were sprinkled on the guest tables and around the floral centerpieces. All of these details as well as personalized gift sets for the children ensured that everyone (young and old) had plenty to look at and do throughout the evening. The wedding’s signature decorative pieces were a vintage typewriter and an original, 18th century, rebound book that served as the space for guests to sign and send messages to the two brides. The other signature pieces of the day included Laila’s ink Fluevog shoes that complimented the deep pink dresses of our gorgeous bridesmaids and the cream linen and cocoa vested suits of our best men.
Our ceremony under the chuppah honoured my Jewish heritage and rituals. It was so special having both Laila’s family (including her 12 and 17 year old sons) and my family involved in the ceremony and honouring us with their blessings for a happy life together. Although everyone was moved by the ceremony itself, the pink and green martinis and open bar on the lawn (accompanied by a string quartet) were the perfect interlude between the more formal aspects of the celebration and the reception. The sunset that day was unbelievable. Not only the brides were snapping portraits in front of the mountains and in the golden glow of the early evening!
Our reception, held under the lovely, garden tent, was filled with laughs, music, good food and drinks, heartfelt speeches and lots of love. Laila and I walked/danced into the reception with “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross bellowing from the speakers. Our head table backed onto a gorgeous view and then glowing lanterns that hung from the trees and lined a romantic stroll down to the beach. From the outdoor ceremony overlooking the scenic Jericho beach and Pacific Ocean, to cocktail hour and passed hors d’oeuvres on the garden as dusk was casting a pink hue across the horizon, and a full dinner under the garden tent on the terrace, it was a truly magical evening. It was the happiest day of my life!”
