Deer of the Day, Jan.17: Barry’s Buck

Barry Pfaff, of Russell, shot this nice 8 point buck during rifle season in Warren County. He was hunting with a .25 -.06 Ruger rifle that his son, Mathew, had given to him as a gift.

The story behind the .25- .06 rifle used to take the 8 point is interesting. Years ago, Barry’s son collected pop cans and saved up his money until he had enough to buy a 30 – 30 rifle. Eventually, the rifle was traded for the .25 – .06 Ruger with a rubberized grip and wooden inlays. Barry said, ” My boy Matt had some trouble with the 30 -30 and decided to go with the other rifle”. Two years ago Barry received the .25 – 06 rifle as a Christmas gift from Matt. “It meant a lot to me this year when I was able to shoot this buck with the rifle my son had given to me”, Barry said.
