A Royal Blue Wedding in Alberta
Welcome back to your regular scheduled programming…I hope you all had a fabulous long weekend! Whenever I get a real wedding, I always make it a point to speak to the bride (and sometimes groom). It’s during this time when I get to hear about their decor inspiration and most importantly, tips and tricks that we all can learn from. Carly & Chris got married just one day after the Royal Wedding and with only 5 months to plan, they had to find a way to find the vendors that they wanted and a way to stay on budget. What they ended up with was a totally refreshing wedding and elements that definitely stood out. Read on after the images to see how this couple brought their wedding inspiration to life! {from lauren} The story behind the arcade basketball net I included: this was their alternative to the clicking the glass to have the bride and groom kiss. So guest could come up and take a shot, If they got the ball in the bride and groom would. Everybody had alot of fun with that! :)
Being practical and true to ourselves made the day just right. Our goal was to create a fun atmosphere to celebrate our marriage, and all of our friends and family were instrumental in helping us pull it off, lending their car, esthetics skills, organization and ideas. Chris proposed November 26th 2010, so we had 5 months to put it together. Picking an off-season date was an advantage for finding the right vendors and prices, and marrying the day after the Royal wedding certainly didn’t hurt the excitement level. I ordered a less elaborate dress to ensure I would be able to receive it in time, and added the bling myself. I designed and made the invitations, including some stitching on my sewing machine and a picture of us. Like every bride, you want your day to be special. I didn’t have time to fuss around with unique, unfamiliar things, so I focused on the things I knew how to do and made them my own. Each table had a pyramid-shaped menu card, that also listed the bridal party and a thank you to the guests. I made the garter from the feather boa the girls got me for the stagette (Chris played along with a mouthful of feathers rather well). The candy wedding favors were a hit while the guests waited for dinner, and were much cheaper than many other options we looked at. I opted for chair covers instead of fancier table centerpieces, with the thought that plain bamboo plants are something people would be likely to take home, and the chair covers have a more significant impact on the impression of the room as you walk in. The basketball game broke the ice, and with the help of the emcee’s set the tone for the evening. We kept the bar open during dinner, which may have contributed to our record-setting liquor sales. All in all, if you were there to celebrate, you were in good company!
