The furniture that German designer Nils Holger Moormann creates in the town of Aschau is spare, lean, geometric, and monochrome, and when he sat down to sketch out his ultimate camper van, the Volkswagen T5 came out that way, too. The exterior is matte black, the interior a mix of oak, zinc alloy, and stainless steel.

As Moorman’s website explains (translated from German):

A self-confessed lover of minimalist design and authentic materials, there hasn’t been a suitable option on the market to date with regards to style. So it was only logical to follow his own path and create Moormann’s new standard class. The spatial distribution in a VW bus has matured over a number of years and leaves very little room for improvement. In reality it’s the carefully chosen materials and an exact eye for detail that shape the new overall appearance of the Moormann mobile. Nils Holger Moormann and his team have done what they do best: omitted everything that could possibly be omitted. The vehicle appears completely inconspicuous from the outside. On the inside there’s a whole new world with restrained materials, functional details and harmonious lighting. Wood is allowed to be wood, stainless steel can be stainless steel. Furniture surfaces of Nanotech laminate or seat covers of merino wool give a quiet and natural appearance, but with positive care features.

Of course, the van isn’t set up for what Europeans might called wild camping. It’s as refined as you would expect from a German designer. �And it’s not just some for-hire design job-although it can be ordered from Custom Bus, a kind of German GoWesty or Sportsmobile, Moorman made this van to use himself.

I started the project in my own interest,” Holger Moormann he told Dezeen. “Freedom has always been my highest priority. I even spend my business travels in a camper and therefore it was natural to look for a proper solution.”
