We did it!

After 2400 miles, 10 states and 13 days of riding we made it to the Gulf of Mexico following the Great River Road system from Lake Itasca, MN. What a great adventure. What an amazing country we live in. We met some wonderful people and saw some spectacular sights. We crossed the first bridge across the Mississippi (pedestrian) and the the last road bridge over the Mississippi in New Orleans. We even took the last ferry across the Mighty Mississippi in the Mississippi Delta.

We had dinner in the oldest brick building in America west of the Mississippi.  We learned about all the famous Americans that grew up along the Mississippi. We even visited the home base for some newly famous Americans, Antique Archaeology (American Pickers) and Duck Commander (Duck Dynasty). Everyone along the way could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Well maybe the drivers in New Orleans…………… Seriously do they even have police there?????

Lake Itasca, source of the Mississippi River

I learned more than I thought I would. Every place  along the river has a history and once we  told people what we were doing the stories just gushed out.  We really needed to take more time to give each town the attention they deserve. But that is the way we do things isn’t it? Always a deadline, always in a hurry to get somewhere else.

Over the next few weeks we hope to compile all the pictures and stories we have heard and share them with you. Thanks for kind words and support everyone has given us!
