Steelhead are filling area streams with recent rains

Catching steelhead by casting from Lake Erie tributary creek mouths was impossible for much of the week due to rough water. Many fish made it into the streams themselves and were being caught throughout the week. Don’t let the high turbid water discourage you. Bright colored lures and sucker spawn used by fly anglers were taking fish in east side mile creeks on Wednesday, when waters were flowing swiftly. Many steelhead anglers prefer these conditions. Higher water with a little color helps to conceal anglers from the fish. Often the steelhead will hold in current breaks or on the creek edges outside of the heavy currents.
