Rustic Orange & Slate Grey Wedding in Canmore
After browsing through the images of today’s wedding, I immediately knew it was definitely something to be shared because the combination of dark grey and orange just so happens to be my latest palette of choice. And the fact that it’s not a typical fall color scheme of browns + reds, makes it that much more special. Captured by TLAW Photography & planned/designed by Inspired Occasions , this delicious decor-filled wedding was held at the beautiful Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club in Canmore, Alberta. Lisa and Phil knew they wanted to incorporate a rusty orange but didn’t want the typical orange and brown colour palette featured all too often at fall weddings. Their wedding planner, Terra, suggested incorporating slate grey as an alternative to chocolate brown and a vibrant yellow to add a bold punch of colour. Lisa and Phil loved the colour palette that was suggested and the rest of the wedding design was built from there.
Lisa and Phil were married at Canmore’s Ralph Connor Memorial United Church, which provided the intimate and quaint atmosphere they were looking for. Bunches of yellow James Storey orchids, orange dahlias, and buplerum were tied to the ends of the pews with slate grey ribbon, creating a vibrant pop of colour.
The bride stunned in her fitted mermaid Larazo gown and carried a bouquet of white veronica, white stock, white ranunculas, white lisianthus, white calla lilies, and white dahlias accented with pictures of her beloved grandparents hanging from the charcoal ribbon wrapped stems.
The bridesmaids wore slate grey Lazaro tea length dresses and bouquets featuring orange dahlias, mango calla lilies, orange celosia, orange mokara orchids, orange ranunculas, and yellow James Storey orchids.
Four rows of long tables were featured at the reception, a refreshing change from the typical banquet rounds. The tables were draped in luxurious slate grey floor length linens, which picked up perfectly on the slate grey stone that covered the double-sided fireplace in the room. Fruitwood chiavari chairs were brought in to add to a modern, yet rustic feel and played up the colour of the wooden beams overhead. To create instant drama, the entire length of the tables were filled with end to end flowers in shades of yellow and orange.
Towering vases of yellow James Storey orchids created a tree like feel on the tables, a nod to the season as well as to the trees visible outside the expansive windows. Clear glass cube vases were filled with clusters of a single type of bloom– a modern approach to the décor. Orange mokara orchids adorned the second tallest vases on the tables, while others featured orange dahlias and the lowest cube vases were filled with yellow ranunculus. The tables also featured ample candlelight to create a warm and intimate environment for dining, as well as soft amber uplighting along the perimeter of the walls.
The table numbers featured images of a birch tree trunk with a heart carved out and the couple’s initials, a design that was also featured on the wedding invitations and ceremony programs.
Yellow James Story orchids were placed on the slate grey napkins for an added pop of colour.
Guests were treated to a cigar bar, followed by a night full of dancing.
