Nuance Occasions is a lifestyle Edmonton wedding planner and designer, providing stylishly planned weddings and chic decor design. I asked Jolyn to give us some tips on how to modernize the decore of a traditional wedding ceremony.
Weddings are often all about tradition – and when designing a ceremony, it is often hard to think outside of the box to create modern styling for your traditional ceremony.
Whenever I need to make a ceremony space more modern, I start thinking of two elements – shape and materials.
Shape, because traditionally ceremony florals and arches have a traditional shape & familiar design. If you can break free from those constraints, suddenly you have a refreshing decor scheme.
A change is materials is another element to change up a decor scheme, because using different metals or fabrics or unique florals can take a traditional decor item and give it a new & contemporary feel.
So let me share with you some great examples I found online to help outline how you can incorporate these principles into designing your contemporary ceremony decor scheme.
Below is an arch is created with floral pomander balls and ribbon at different lengths. By changing how the traditional shape is created, the arch has a modern feel. I love that you can still have a traditional alter area using an untraditional design.

Alter floral arrangements often are large & stately. Consider switching it up a bit by having taller pillars with low arrangements on top for a sleeker design.

By mixing materials and texture, you can create elements of interest. These pomanders mix florals with moss to create a more modern styling for aisle decor.

Another way to provide a chic contemporary feel to your reception is to switch up your seating. Opt for bench seating to provide a lower view line of the ceremony space. It definitely is a more minimalist look.
I hope these two principles of altering shape or materials will help you in designing a contemporary feel to your traditional wedding ceremony
