Brix Emerald Wedding in Vancouver
I am in utter love with Amanda and Erik’s New Years Eve wedding from by Dallas Kolotylo Photography and Chelsea Linton Weddings . Held at the ever chic Brix Restaurant in Vancouver, it shows how you can pair emerald green with a rich palette of black, white and gold. This is a combination that’s lush, opulent and yet so modern as shown with the striped black and white linens on the reception tables. Now we know why emerald was this year’s pantone color of the year.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
That’s a tough one! There were a lot of beautiful moments, but I’d have to say, the first look took my breath away! Erik had has back to me while I walked down the stairs from the 3rd to 2nd floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim. I had the biggest butterflies in my stomach walking down those stairs. When I got to the bottom he turned around and Dallas and Sabrina caught the moment perfectly on camera! It was a once in a lifetime feeling.
How did you two meet?
We worked together when we were 18 at a local restaurant, Cactus Club. We were friends but lost touch over the years. He messaged me on Facebook on my 23rd birthday and we just started messaging each other on a daily basis and the rest is history!
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
I’m an interior designer by day, so coming up with the perfect decor scheme was extremely important to me. Given that it was a New Years Eve wedding, typical wedding colours like pink would not have worked. Even before we set our date, I was picturing my bridesmaids in emerald green, 2013’s colour of the year. J. Crew had the perfect dresses, so I started with that and pulled the rest of the scheme in from there. I’m obsessed with stripes and love how understated yet glamorous a black and white stripe is, so I incorporated it into the table runners. I’m a gold lover so naturally it was my choice for the votives and floral vases. I went with all white flowers to solidify the colour scheme- black, white, emerald green with accents of gold. I feel the overall look was sophisticated, but fun with that added element of surprise in the black & white striped runners.
Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?
Doing the “first look” was the best decision we made. It got those nervous jitters out of the way and we had our private moment together before the chaos of the day started. We also did all of our wedding party photography before the ceremony which helped with the timeline of the day. Also- hire a day of coordinator!! It was the best gift we bought for ourselves. Our planner Chelsea Linton made the day flow so smoothly and whenever a little hiccup occurred she was there to take care of it without letting the problem get to us. It was the best! Most of all, I would say remember that this day is about you and your partner. No matter what decor, dress, venue you go with at the end of the day, it’s all about celebrating your love. Through the stress of planning it all in the months leading up, I would remind myself of that all the time, which in turn helped keep me sane. And don’t have too many drinks on the big day until the dance party!!
