RAD Adoption Program Update: Jeremy & Bruno

At Winter Outdoor Retailer, an outdoor industry trade show held twice a year, Ruffwear partnered with Best Friends Animal Society and local Salt Lake City animal shelter Rescue Rovers to host a Ruff Adventure Dog (RAD) adoption event at our booth. The event was a huge success and we helped find active new homes for 11 adventurous dogs! One of the dogs, Bruno, went home to Portland, OR, with Jeremy, an Icebreaker employee. We were thrilled that one of the RAD dogs would be moving to his forever home in our own home state and that he would be an office dog at Icebreaker. We recently checked in with Jeremy to see how he and Bruno are doing. Thanks for sharing your photos and experiences, Jeremy!

How long has Bruno been part of your family? Bruno joined my family about 2.5 months ago, at Winter Outdoor Retailer. RAD Adoption Program Update: Jeremy & Bruno

What about Bruno inspired you to make adopt him? I had been considering adopting a dog for a while, as a trail/camping/backpacking companion. I walked by Bruno at the Ruffwear booth — we locked eyes and he smiled at me, that was it. We clicked right away, and he was instantly at home in the Icebreaker booth. After just a couple hours, it seemed like we had been together for years.

How has having Bruno in your family changed your life? Bruno has been a welcomed addition to my family as well my office. My nephews and niece love him, and we get to spend a bit more time together taking him on walks and playing fetch. Since adopting Bruno, I’ve also spent more time outdoors and getting him some fresh air. From the beach to the mountains – he’s an amazing companion and co-pilot.

What is your most memorable or favorite experience that you’ve shared with Bruno? The entire experience has been memorable. He’s incredibly smart and intuitive, an amazing listener and quick to pick up new tricks. Our road trip home from Outdoor Retailer, our recent trip to Canada, have all been great experiences with my now well-traveled pup!

Canada, eh? Tell us more! Bruno and I headed north 9 hours from Portland to Nelson, BC. Bruno was stoked when we arrived to see our cabin had a huge backyard for him to chase balls directly into snow drifts. We spent time walking around Kootenay Lake – Bruno didn’t seem to mind the near freezing water temps as he gladly strolled right in – as well as the town of Nelson. We did a bit of snowshoeing on Sproule Creek where Bruno got to try his Ruffwear boots on for size and proved there was no snow too deep for him to chase his ball through. Even though he wasn’t able to hit the slopes with me, we did take a quick hike around the Whitewater Ski Resort where he was quickly showered with love from ski-schoolers returning to the lodge after a day on the slopes. Bruno absolutely loves the snow and was a great addition to the trip – looking forward to more snow trips in our future!
