Dress Shopping

You’ve picked your perfect man, but what’s next?! Selecting the perfect dress for your celebration. You should consider a few factors and remember some important details when shopping for your dream dress. Most importantly, what do you feel beautiful and comfortable in!

  1. The location – The location and time of time are important when picking out the dress. If you plan to have a day time ceremony on the beach, you will want to avoid a heavy ball gown with a long train and over the top embellishments.
  2. Set a budget – This one is important for a number of reasons. Make sure your salesperson knows ahead of time what your budget is and if there is any wiggle room [for the perfect dress]. Consider the additional expenses for veil, undergarments, alterations and jewelry.
  3. Focus on the fit, not the size – Keep in mind, wedding gowns run small in size. If you are normally a 6, you could end up with a size 10. Do not cut yourself short and go with the smaller size because you plan to loose a ton of weight before the wedding. It’s always easier and much cheaper to take a dress in than it is to add fabric.
  4. Make a game plan – Do you research! Call ahead to the salons you are interested in and find out the designers they carry and their average price point. Most boutiques require you make an appointment ahead of time. Don’t try to cram too many appointments into one day. We suggest doing two a day. You want to be able to enjoy the process!
  5. Make the most of each fitting – You will most likely have AT LEAST two dress fittings before it’s just right. Make the most of your fittings. Bring your shoes, your jewelry, your veil so you can get a picture perfect idea of how the ensemble comes together.
