But let’s face it, they’re a great place to start

I’m writing this in a situation so close to a dream come true it’s hard to believe I’m not dreaming. I’m sat at a glass-topped mahogany style desk, lit by a solitary lamp. Behind me – separated only by metres of air – waves tussle and dance and pound and crash and swagger and splash against the sand and coral limestone of the shore.

Beyond the lamp, only starlight pierces the darkness. If my eyes are patient enough, the breathless trace of a curved slice of moon begins to take shape on the canvas of sky.

Those waves belong to the Caribbean Sea – or the Atlantic Ocean depending on who you’re talking to. The dreams belong to me.

I’m here as part of the Barbados Blogathon project – and I’ve seven days to explore the island with The Club from Elite Island Resorts as a base.

Amid the stars, the surf and the sleep deprivation, tentacles of jet lag tangle around my mind. I want to tell you why this is more than just another hotel room and why Barbados is more than just beautiful beaches.

But I’ll have to admit defeat. I’ll have to tell you all about it on another, better rested day.

Until then, let me leave you with the beaches.

They may not be “all there is.” But they’re still something special.
