Allegheny Forest will see Improved Habitat with Planned Enhancement Project
The Allegheny National Forest’s Marienville Ranger District is planning on improving the habitat within it’s 200 acre management area. Many species of reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals live within the forests and rock outcrops of the Marienville Ranger District. “This project will reduce the canopy to make the habitat more desirable for these species,” said District Ranger Rob Fallon. The project plans include cutting trees and shrubs to provide more direct sunlight to areas that are otherwise shaded by the forest canopy. The trees would be left in the forest to provide habitat for animals seeking shelter or cover. Ground disturbances will be minimal.
