$200M for state parks, forests include in Corbett’s budget proposal

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett said his 2014-15 budget proposal will include a 2-year campaign that would pump more than $200 million effort into repairs and upgrades of state parks and state forests.

Enhance Penn’s Woods would lead to around 200 projects over two years , including a few in the Northwest Region

Cook Forest State Park, in Clarion County, would get a new park office.

Pymatuning State Park, in Crawford County, would see dam repairs, as would Chapman State Park in Warren County.

The measure also would pay for repairs to state forest fire towers; add 20,000 acres to the state forest system; improve a number of state park campgrounds; provide more than 50 public access improvement projects to roads, bridges and trails; and aid in 17 state park drinking water or wastewater system projects.

The program would coverc the current fiscal year 2013-14, and fiscal year 2014-15. An additional allocation of $45 million would come from premiums and interest on Growing Greener II bond funds.
