Modern Vintage Wedding at the Glen Abbey in Ontario

I’ve got another beautiful wedding to share with you this week and it’s sure to be one you’ll want to bookmark for later. Kim, the bride and owner of Coco and Bear Vintage , showcased some of her unique pieces to create a fully curated wedding. Mixed in with some modern details, the wedding with a palette of blush, grey and ivory started out with a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Dundurn Castle followed by a reception at the Glen Abbey Golf Club . Kim wore a gorgeous vintage styled wedding dress by Tara Keely , while Marko wore a modern suit with an open collar and a bowtie. Their goal was to combine a modern and vintage style together and as you’ll see in the images by Alyssa Alkema Photography , they achieved it.

The proposal: Marko and I got engaged on June 6th, 2013. He proposed over an intimate dinner at Oyster House & Grill in The Distillery District downtown Toronto. Unfortunately for Marko, this was not his first attempt at asking me. The previous weekend, we had jumped in the car and went up to Sudbury (my home town) for my eldest niece’s high school graduation. The first night we got there, we were sitting outside with my parents and enjoying an after dinner coffee when Marko asked if I’d like to go for a walk down to the water to see the stars. This particular spring was horrible for black flies and as soon as we started to make our way down the stairs towards the water, the flies just started to drive me nuts. They were in my hair and everywhere! Marko tried to ignore them and grabbed my hand and started saying some really nice stuff that I don’t remember because I was too busy swatting away the flies that were in my face. I quickly jumped up and took my hands from his and screamed “I can’t do this right now” and ran back up to the house. Little did I know, my husband was trying to propose and little did he know, I had no idea and was simply saying that I didn’t want to be out there with the bugs – he thought that I meant that I couldn’t  say yes to his proposal. Oh boy… it was a long weekend and for some reason I couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t very happy with me.  Luckily, he realized that I would never say no and tried again a few days later, when I happily said yes through tear filled eyes.

The significance of 12: We chose July 12th, 2014 as our wedding day. Marko and I have a bit of an obsession with the numbers 1 and 2. Marko is born on the 12th of the month and I am born on the 21st of the same month. We were engaged on the 6th day of the 6th month – which equals 12. My sister and his brother are both also born on a 21st and his mother shares a birthday on the 12th. My lucky number has always been 12. Needless to say, this number follows us everywhere we go!

Favorite parts of the day: 1) the intimate castle ceremony and the nature all around us, 2) my wedding dress *sigh*, 3) the florals at the ceremony and especially the table design at the reception, 4) the food! We couldn’t stop talking about it for days, 5) our junior bridesmaids and their floral headpieces, 6) and of course, marrying my best friend
