Classic Quebec Wedding from Sara Megan Photography
I always adore weddings with classic details. Today’s wedding captured by Sara Megan Photography has understated, yet elegant decor along with calligraphy details that you can’t help but appreciate. Held in Montreal, the bride hand drew the stationery (love!), wrote her own calligraphy and even created her own floral pieces and carved caked topper. An absolute labour of love. Enjoy!
Says the bride: When my husband and I got engaged, we knew that our wedding was going to reflect all that we love most: good food, good wine, close family and friends, and be in a cozy and beautiful place to enjoy it all. It was important that our wedding was not just celebrating the union of two people but of two families. We wanted to include as much as possible our cultures into the ceremony as well as into the celebration by having a trilingual service, allowing family and friends coming from Brazil, Colombia, and North America to feel included. Being an avid DIY-er, I knew that I was going to execute all the decorations and details myself. I hand drew the stationary, practiced my calligraphy for the envelopes; I created the table centerpieces, made the bouquets and flower arrangements, and even hand carved my cake topper. The whole family got inspired. The groom’s godmother made the cake, my mother-in-law prepared over 500 brigadeiros, a traditional Brazilian dessert, a family friend prepared our favours and my childhood friend played the violin as I walked down the aisle.
As luck would have it, all the chaos occurred the day before the wedding. Montréal was under tornado warning and had widespread power outages. A hundred year old tree was blown over by the intense wind and crashed right into the dining hall and others had fallen right at the spot where I envisioned our ceremony. No matter how calm a bride can be, when she is faced with so many challenges, she starts to freak out! Thankfully my beloved husband-to-be was able to calm me down and remind me that in the end, the most important thing was our being together, and having the people we love most share in our joy. Thankfully, the wedding day itself was the most magical and surreal experience. It was so wonderful having all the people that love us surround us on our most special day. I truly feel that we achieved what we had initially hoped, to have an intimate, meaningful, loving, and personal celebration.
