I’m absolutely in love with today’s wedding captured by Jarusha Brown Photography . When I put together features, there’s always the few that make it so easy. It’s crafty, sweet and not to mention in the perfect rustic/cabin location where Katie & Dain were married outside among the trees.

How did you two meet?

We briefly met at a bike race … a mutual friend introduced us … and I immediately fell smitten over him and his amazing smile. He had a girlfriend at the time (boo!), so nothing came of it. 4 months after the bike race we saw eachother again at a bike event in Graegle, Ca (that is the town where we ended up getting married!). It was early Saturday morning, and people were all over the campground area trying to get ready for our big bike ride for the day. I saw Dain through the crowd, went up to him to say hi, he flashed me that same smile from 4 months before, and I immediately knew this was going to be the guy for me! Love at second sight, as I say often :)

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

My favorite moment was when I rounded the corner to start walking down the aisle and saw Dain. I had my Dad (who is the best dad ever!) on my side, and saw my future husband waiting at the other end for me. I will never forget the look on his face… he was already starting to tear up. He had so much love in his eyes, and I felt like the luckiest girl ever to be getting to marry this man.

What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?

My mother was a big inspiration in my overall wedding decor. She passed away over 10 years ago (I was 20). She always had the “Do It Yourself” attitude for things (she was VERY crafty!), so I ran with that for my wedding. It started with me wanting to make my own invitation, and eventually I went as crazy as making my own bouquet out of fabric flowers. I even used my mom’s old wooden spools for the table decor! She used to put her empty spools into a container that I used to play with as a kid with my siblings like they were building blocks. The color scheme came from looking at wedding blogs for color inspiration. Initially I thought I might do yellow and grey and black, and then I saw a wedding on some blog that had the yellow and red and black and white color theme, and I immediately knew that was for me. I’m obsessed with polka dots, so naturally I built the color scheme and decor around dots and stripes and then I added in some damask and other prints to give it a “vintage-ish” feel.

Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?
Just let go. Do what you can to make your wedding your special day, but at a certain point, you need to let go, and let things happen as they do. You don’t need to do everything you planned, things don’t need to be set up exactly as you see them in your head (let other people have creative authority to set things up!), etc. … at the end of the day, people don’t really remember your food or decorations, they remember the love that emanates from you and your new husband.
