An Intimate Wedding in Downtown Calgary

Another lovely wedding for you to enjoy this morning. Captured by the ever-talented Rowan Jane Photography , Erin and Erik were married at a quaint Italian restaurant in downtown Calgary with their closest family and friends. Packed into the restaurant’s small garden patio, the ceremony is SO charming and full of DIY vintage details. Enjoy!

We wanted our wedding to feel like a reunion of the favorite people in our lives and truly reflect our dream of a casual and relaxing wedding day. Hosting our wedding at the beautiful Bonterra Trattoria meant that most of the decor was already provided. Because of this we incorporated just a few key ideas into our decor drawing from classic/vintage elements. The setting for the ceremony was in Bonterra’s intimate patio. We had hoped for a warm fall day, but instead, we got a cool and damp day. Luckily, the patio lamps and roaring fireplaces kept guests warm.

I love the rustic look of this wish board containing manila tags and mini clothes pins. Read on because at the end of this post, Erin describes how they created this feature piece. DIY Items (from the bride):

- Guests were greeted with the traditional guest book table. However, rather than have guests sign a book, we used a antique window frame and attached rustic looking string. We then tea dyed shipping tags and using clothes pins, had guests make a wish for us on a card and hang it in the window. The cards were filled with unique and encouraging words that we will treasure for years to come.

- We DIY’d our programs to create a small memento for guests to take home to remember our big day. We used drawers from an antique sewing table to hold the programs and asked guests to help themselves when they walked in (prompted by a simple sign we printed and framed using an inexpensive black frame).

- Rather than elaborate floral pieces to decorate tables and the focal point of the ceremony, I collected mason jars, milk bottles and apothecary style bottles and filled them with wild flowers and simple candles. I used large vases filled with candles to mark the aisle so that my dad and I had a clear path to get to our destination.
