A lot going on at the 2016 Erie Sport and Travel Expo
The Erie Sport and Travel Expo is set to begin this Friday at Erie’s Bayfront Convention Center. Beginning at noon on March 4, the Bayfront Convention Center in Erie will become an extravaganza of outdoor sport and travel. From hunting and fishing seminars, to the diving Dock Dogs, this year’s expo has something for everyone.
Hunting legend Tom Miranda will host seminars on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Miranda has taken over 50 whitetails on video and has taken all 29 North American Big Game animals with archery equipment. He is the first bowhunter to have documented the archery SUPER SLAM on video.
Texas Roadhouse pro, Mike DelVisco, will host seminars on how to get the most out of your sonar, utilizing soft plastic lures, and teaching kids to fish. Mike is a full-time time professional angler with over 30 years of bass fishing experience. He has competed on the Bassmaster and PAA Tours, qualifying for the 2007 and 2008 Grand Slam, as well as the 2009 Bassmaster Series National Championship.
Dog Training Seminars will display retriever skills onstage beginning on Friday and will continue throughout the weekend. Retriever expert, Jim Beverly, will also be available to answer questions. Keeping with the retriever theme, the 5th Annual Companion Retriever Hunting Challenge will focus on the typical retriever owner. This contest is for the amateur hunter or handler that wants to show off their retriever’s abilities.
The Monster Buck Contest is new to the Expo. The Monster Buck Contest is looking for trophies to display in three separate divisions. Bring your white-tailed buck mount to the Bayfront Convention Center for check in on Thursday, March 3 from noon until 6 pm to enter the contest. Each mount entered will be on display throughout the Expo and the public will be asked to vote for their favorite buck in each division. Votes will be tallied at the end of the Expo and winners will be announced in the Erie Times News on Sunday, March 12. Each person who enters a buck mount will receive a pair of tickets to the show. – See more at: Monster Buck Contest
Mark Haffley, a Fisheries Technician with the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), will be at the Expo reviewing the current status and trends for Lake Erie. He will also review a report with his predictions for the coming fishing seasons.
Kids activities, a trout pond, kayak demos, long range shooting tips, and live wildlife performances are all some of the other exciting events going to be featured at the 2016 Expo. This year’s Expo is loaded with fun entertainment. There will even be a presentation on the history of Bigfoot complete with eyewitness accounts of encounters.
One of the largest draws to the Erie Sport and Travel Expo is the many different exhibitors (within nine separate categories) that will be on display during this three day event. Nearly a hundred different exhibitors will be on hand to talk to expo attendants about everything from adventure trips to laser eye surgery.
