2015 Spring Bird Banding totals for Presque Isle State Park

Bird banding gives researchers the oppurtunity to gather information used for scientific studies and conservation efforts. Identifying bands, made of metal or plastic, are placed on birds during banding events. These identification bands are then later used by ornithologists to gather data. Some birds are caught more than once, displaying several bands.

Over 1300 birds were banded during the six week spring bird banding time period on Presque Isle State Park. Seventy different species were banded on Presque Isle, proving that the park has amazing bird diversity. Eighteen species of warbler alone were identified and banded during the 2015 Bird Banding events.

By attending a bird banding event, visitors were able view the birds inhabiting Presque isle State Park, and see the bird banding processes.
