It’s Spring Break, so this week’s Photo Friday is a celebration of that most time-honored tradition — the spring break road trip.

We’ve been getting a ton of really fantastic images in the #modernhiker hashtag lately, but these four are our favorites for this week —

Johnny Sanchez took his family up to Big Sur for some world-class coastal views and, of course, world-class hiking.

Lexie Hendricks spent some time getting her boots dirty near Moab, Utah – and I can say there are few places on earth where getting your boots dirty can be so much fun. You’re basically smack dab in the middle of Canyonlands , Dead Horse Point State Park , and Arches , and all three are killer outdoor destinations.

Meanwhile … in Texas, Claire Edwards took a trip to one of the most remote National Parks in the system (and one that’s been on my list for a while now), Big Bend National Park . I think this photo accurately captures a feeling we’ve all had visiting our new favorite outdoor places for the first time, right?

And finally, we all know road trips aren’t ALL just beautiful vistas and heart-pounding moments – sometimes, it’s the little discomforts that really make the trip memorable. Things like, say, making lunch with a camp stove in a grocery store parking lot because you’re trying to save money for the good stuff. As someone who has done this (as well as some other fun penny-pinching road trip moves), I salute this group’s tenacity as well as their road trip (which looks like it may actually be a REALLY LONG one , too!)
