PFBC releases biologist report for Union City Reservoir
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission has released a Fisheries Biologist Report and 2014 Trap Net/Boat Electrofishing Survey for the Union City Reservoir.
Union City Reservoir is a 25 acre impoundment located a few miles northeast of Union City in Erie County. Constructed in 1934, the impoundment is owned by Union City Borough, and is used to supply water to the town of Union City. The reservoir is open to public fishing on a year round basis; however, vehicle access is regulated by a gate that is opened and closed daily from 7am to dusk beginning May 31st to October 15th of each year. Night fishing is permitted but restricted to a walk-in only. Launching facilities are limited to car top vessels, such as small boats, canoes, and kayaks. No motorized boats of any kind are permitted.- PFBC
The PFBC report lists the species of fish, numbers of fish, and the size ranges of fish collected at the Union City Reservoir during the time of survey. The Union City Reservoir biologist report confirms that the reservoir is a good place to fish for panfish, but also boasts one of the best bass fishing opportunities for a small lake located in Pennsylvania. Although the reservoir has been stocked with muskellunge since 1961 and has been previously listed in the Muskellunge Brood Stock Lakes Program, stocking of musky in the Union City Reservoir will cease because of low catch rates.
