Bride Blogger Update: Engagement Party
This is a festive time of year with parties and celebrations throughout the season! Bride Blogger Lauren and her groom, Brad, recently spent an evening toasting their engagement with family and friends – what a special time!

As my Macy’s wedding registry just reminded me that our wedding is 183 days out (a bit intense that they send weekly reminders), I took a minute to look back at our engagement journey thus far and realized that I have yet to share with you the details of our unforgettable engagement party.
Brad and I are blessed with incredibly supportive, loving and thoughtful friends and family. We have also been extremely lucky when it comes to former and current colleagues. When we first started looking for places to hold a cocktail party to celebrate our engagement, we agreed to try to keep the cost limited. In Washington D.C., that can be a very difficult thing to do. What we learned was that our friends and colleagues can be extremely gracious in helping us celebrate. My previous boss, Gloria, had heard about the different venues we were exploring and generously offered to host our engagement party at her beautiful home in the District.
Since we now had a venue free of cost, we were able to maximize the dollars that we wanted to spend on hors d’oeuvres and wine. If you are throwing a cocktail party on a budget, remember these two names: Trader Joe’s and Costco . Both offer tremendous bang for the buck. Brad was able to select tasty wines for a steal at Trader Joe’s and we found that some great cocktail and finger foods at Costco for very reasonable prices.
We were able to supplement those purchases with just a few catered items to provide a little flair for our guests. My favorite guilty pleasure was also available: Sprinkles Cupcakes . The cupcakes were not only delish, they were customized to spell out “tie the knot.” Who could resist?
It was the perfect night, surrounded by all the people that mean most to us, well except for those from out to town, (we didn’t want to put pressure on out of town folks to attend, so the guests were limited to all of our D.C. and VA friends and family). While engagement parties are not for everyone, I highly recommend them.
Why not another excuse to have all of your favorite people together in the same place to celebrate? Some engagement parties have themes, but we kept ours simple. Along with all of the special memories created, my favorite take-away was the framed board with all of our friends’ well wishes.
