Carolyn Berry of Modern Bridal Studio is a makeup miracle worker and a District Favorite ! From a fall red lip to the best concealer out there, Carolyn shares her top tips and what she loves most about making brides look their best!

How did you get started in the makeup industry?

I have loved makeup as long as I can remember. At 7 years old I remember thinking my family members were wearing colors that were too dramatic for their fair completed, naturally attractive faces.

I spent my teen years employed by the Macys men’s department, and wandered frequently to the cosmetic department. Every chance I had I was asking questions, trying out new colors, and asking to attend cosmetic trainings on my days off.  In order to work for a makeup line you had to be 18. I waited with much anticipation and excitement to be transferred to the makeup Dept. on my 18th Birthday. My first real Makeup Job was at the Clinique counter in 1998. Putting on the white lab coat for the first time was an amazing feeling I will never forget. I was living the dream.  14 years later I love my job with the same excitement.

Favorite Current Makeup Trend?

I personally love a slight winged liner with a brighter lip and very soft cheek. Pinks have been super popular this spring.

(Seasons most loved pink- Makeup Forever aqua rouge #14)

For fall the red lip will be everything. It goes perfectly with the messy but finished hair. A hint of vintage is always beautiful.

Favorite makeup product in my makeup bag?

This changes frequently as I love amazing products.

Right now, I am loving Cle de Peau Concealer. It is pricey, but worth every penny. It stays put, a little bit goes a long way, COMPLETELY covers up darkness and blemishes. I love the stick form because it is portable. No need for touch ups with this product!

Must have Makeup Step for Brides?

#1 Waterproof everything! From the primers, liners and bronzers, we go as waterproof as possible.

#2 Before moisturizing, I prep the skin with witch hazel. It is great to remove any natural oils so the proper products will be able to do their job.

#3 A touch of yellow finishing powder does an amazing job brightening the skin for the photos.
