Sweet Tea Photography
Owner of Sweet Tea Photography Lisa Marie is not only extremely talented, but incredibly passionate, and it shows in her work. Her amazing pictures capture all of the moments you’ll want to remember forever. Below she shares a bit more about her love of photography:
How did you get your start in photography?
So during my childhood I found myself drawn to my parents and grandparents old photos and portraits. I thought they were just so precious. I was really intrigued by how their childhood photographs were different from photos taken of me. The coloring, the printing, the posing….it was just so interesting. Eventually I joined my high school yearbook staff and became photo editor! I was able to take a dark room course in high school and was so hooked, that they made a Dark Room II course for me! From then on, I was hooked! I was a Studio Art Major with a concentration in fine-art photography at my undergrad (Hollins University) and continued my studies at Savannah College of Art & Design where I got a Master of Arts in Commercial Photography.
There are so many things I love about photography, but I think the main thing that keeps my interested is that I never stop learning. I think I enjoy photographing people the most because everyone photographs so differently and capturing each persons unique style and personality is challenging but so much fun!
Do you have a “must capture” moment of every wedding?
Besides the obvious first look, my favorite moment that I really enjoy is the bride putting on her wedding gown. To me it seems like this is the moment when the bride realizes that it’s her wedding day and she’s about to get married to man of her dreams! It’s finally happening after all that planning! It’s also a beautiful moment for the bridesmaids and bride’s mother to witness. In most cases we are able to capture this moment in nice natural lighting which makes it even more stunning.
Do you have an all time favorite wedding photo you’ve taken?
I don’t have an all time favorite photo. I typically have about 3 favorite photos from each wedding that just make me so happy. My current favorites were taken with my beloved Rolleiflex medium format film camera.
Do you have advice for couples who are trying to pick a photographer?
I think the most important thing in choosing your photographer is making sure that your personalities mesh well and that you will be comfortable with them by your side throughout the most important day of your life. What we really pride ourselves on is making our clients comfortable and relaxed. Our personalities put clients at ease, which allows for more natural photos.
