Carine of Carine’s Bridal Atelier just returned from April Bridal Market and is here to give us all the scoop on all the trends and loveliness that she saw! Although I wish I could have gone with her, I am grateful that she has brought all the details back to D.C. for us!

What is the April Bridal Market, and what is your role there?

Bridal Market is where the designers showcase their new collections to the vendors and press.  This April we just saw the new Spring 2013 collections.  My role at market, as the owner of Carine’s Bridal, is to pick out the new gowns that I think my brides will love.  Going up to New York for market is always fun and exciting, but a lot of thought goes into which selection I choose to carry in my boutique.

Were there any particular collections or designers that stood out?
Each collection stood out for a different reason.  I love the way Monique Lhuillier can offer something to every bride – whether it is an ornately embellished gown or her traditional lace look.  Rivini is always able to create a classic gown with a modern twist. And then there is Marchesa who never fails to deliver high fashion, truly couture gowns for a daring bride.

What trends did you notice? Which trends are you particularly excited about?
There are so many great trends this season- sleeves and illusion necklines seem to be the big ones.  I love the soft touch an illusion neckline adds to a dress.  Marchesa, Rivini and Monique Lhuillier all had gorgeous gowns with intricate illusion necklines, everything from lace to sparkle.  Sleeves have also made a comeback, and it seems like they are here to stay!  Carolina Herrera showcased some beautiful gowns with sleeves- her designs are always so classic.

How much of an impact do these trends play on what you carry in the boutique?
It depends on the trend.  I want to make sure the trends I bring in are appropriate for my brides while also offering the fashion forward flair my store has become known for.  My goal is to offer styles for every type of bride, wether she is traditional, fashion forward…or a little bit of both!
