Courtney and Patrick planned their wedding while overseas…quite the feat when you see how their big day turned out!  Their wedding was sophisticated, stately, and extremely elegant – so very D.C. with personal touches and nods to both of their heritages.  The photos by Once Like a Spark Photography are certain to kick off your week in the right direction!  Happy Monday!

DAR Wedding

From the bride…

In June 2010, I moved to Dubai, UAE, and Patrick and I planned to date another two years until I returned in June 2012, but we quickly discovered that we were not able to wait two years to be together again.  In November 2010, he flew from Washington and I flew from Dubai and we met up in Rome, Italy, for Thanksgiving.  We drove to the Compora area of Italy where his family is from and following the trip, he asked me to marry him.  We spent the remainder of our trip to Italy in a converted monastery hotel in Tuscany that makes its own olive oil.  We returned home and furiously began planning our May 2011 wedding.  We did most of the planning through email and Skype, and I only had a chance to return to DC once before the wedding.  We could not have pulled off the wedding without the help of our amazing wedding planner and the flexibility of all our other vendors.

As far as special elements of our wedding, our wedding favors are filled with olive oil made at the hotel in Tuscany.  Patrick is also part Filipino and part Italian, while I am from the South, so we tried to integrate elements of both.  For the Italian, we had the olive oil, and long noodles to symbolize long life for his Asian heritage.  For the Southern part, I wore Gardenia flowers in my hair and we had key lime pie martinis dubbed the “Pucker Up Perriellos”.  Patrick is also from Baltimore, so we ensured to include some of his hometown brew like Ravens beer.

A few more details from our wedding:

Ring Bowl: We loved the ring bowl design and loved the idea of include a quote.  We selected this quote from Pablo Neruda “my love, feeds on your love, as long as you live it will be in your arms without leaving mine”

Table Numbers: We added this quote to all our table numbers because we thought it symbolized our journey to the wedding: “And one by one the nights between our separated cities are joined to the night that unities us”

Blue Ring: I wore my grandmother’s ring as my something old and something blue.

Photobooth: This was the best decision/investment of our discretionary budget.  Everyone had a great time in the booth and the OnoMono guys are an amazing team of artists that provided a really quality project.

Purple shoes: I could not see myself wearing simple white shoes and was super happy with how the rich purple color came out.
