New ways to make you hurt
Whew! What a busy weekend (with a busy week ahead!) I did go to the Red Rocks Fitness thing on Saturday and wow…..those guys are intense! It was awesome actually, and I plan on going back this weekend. Two days later and my shoulders and abs are still wicked sore, although my legs are totally fine. I guess I can tell which muscles of mine are the wimpiest! There was a lot of people that came to the class–like maybe 75ish–which initially gave me the confidence of knowing I could sneak out when/if I couldn’t hack it. And 35 minutes in, I looked at Carrie wondering if that was going to actually happen, but once I got my heart rate elevated, things got a little easier (easier being a relative term!) I seriously have never done so many pushups and planks in a single day in my life. Watching Joe, the head guy, and some of the regulars was pretty inspiring though. There was one exercise where everyone is in a pushup position and walks backwards up all of the steps of the amphitheater (so your head is below your feet and you are doing serious shoulder and ab work). We were allowed to stop when the first person made it to the top–and I think I was on like step 10 when this crazy muscle guy reached the final stair. He was super impressive. Anyway, it was awesome and I loved being outside at the theater to enjoy both the sunshine and a great workout. I’m coming back!
On another way to hurt myself, I was looking at my friend Heather’s facebook page and she is way into adventure sports and physical activity. In fact, I seem to get lots of new ideas from her updated facebook status! Anyway, she did something this weekend called the Manitou Incline which, of course, I am now eager to try. Apparently its this old railway line or something down by Manitou Springs that you can hike up with some 2400 steps that cover 2100 feet of elevation. Once you reach the top to catch your breath and enjoy the views, you can use the Barr Trail to trail run the 3.2 miles back to the parking lot. Sounds like something different in a new area, so I’m thinking I might have to make the drive down to the Springs in the next couple of weekends to give it a whirl. Any interested takers?
Other than that, life has been super busy. June is my crazy month between father’s day, dad’s bday, mom’s bday, my parents anniversary, and angel’s bday. Throw in bachelorette party and wedding shower planning with Lindsy for Angel and it definitely does not leave a lot of free time. We have a birthday party for my mom this Saturday at my parent’s house so of course, this week will be spent getting all of that together. I am looking forward to the 4th of July though cause I really want to go camping!
