I was so wrapped up in my bundle of nerves that I forgot to share that we attempted our first 14er of the season last week! It was Mt Princeton which is a super easy Class One walk up, but it was still fun and it was so nice to be back in the mountains like that again! I haven’t been up since before I went traveling, so it made it extra special to be back. I also got a chance to test out the 4 wheel drive capabilities on my truck, and I must say that she passed with flying colors! We found this little church run cabin at about 12,000 feet (which, yes, I know, is way higher than you usually start but we missed the originally parking lot at 11 and the road was too narrow to turn around anywhere) and it was sweet. Sure beat sleeping in tents anyway! We hung out all night by the fire, purified a hell of a lot of water since my camelback leaked all over and I had no water to hike with, and watched Meg freak out with all the moths flying around her head! Anyway, we got up the next morning and headed up, and damn if this mountain wasn’t easier than I remember them being! I felt like I wasn’t tired and like I could climb all day…which is not how I remember feeling on other 14ers, but anyway! We made it to like 13,000 and decided to take a break before I noticed some serious storm clouds rolling over the summit. Unfortunately, death hit the peak and we had to turn around–especially when we saw the lightning bolts–but it was still a good time! It just means that we will have to go back and do it again!!!
