La Paz…the city of Bolivian AIDS

So, we finished up our Salar trip, and we caught the midnight train north to Oruro with the Australian couple, Abi and Luke. From there, the four of us caught a short bus (3 hours) and arrived in La Paz. It was actually kind of interesting. I am sure not many of you heard, but two Austrian tourists were kidnapped back in February, and all of their money withdrawn from their accounts before they were killed. Needless to say, I think La Paz cracked down on their security, because they have “tourist police” walking around everywhere now, and they had them at the taxi stand at the bus terminal as well. The police officer got our names and passport numbers, as well as the number of our taxi and the driver`s name so that they could track down any reported problems. Luckily, we didn`t have any, but at least they are taking precautions

Anyway, we had arranged to climb Huayna Potosi, this almost 20,000 foot mountain, with Abi and Luke, but sad for me, I got sick. It was pretty similar to what Steve had on the Salar, but mine seemed to only last for 24 hours….give or take a little. We ended up not being to climb, though, so that was kinda sad.

Anyway, we head to Cusco tomorrow via a direct bus (we will see how direct it REALLY is) and get to see Macchu Picchu. I am really psyched but Steve is bitter cause they charge a billion dollars to see it now, just because the Peruvian government knows they can…..oh well. It will be cool!
