Kansas is not flat!
So, it’s been exactly one week since we took off (I think), and it’s already been quite the adventure! We are currently in Hill City, KS, for any of you who actually care, but will be moving on as soon as we are done with the computers. I’m finally getting to the point where it doesn’t hurt to go up hills anymore, and I don’t feel the need to constantly swear every time the wind kicks up….imagine that! A few nights back, we were eating dinner in a small Kansas town called McDonald, population around 100, when a flipping huge Kansas tsunami came out of nowhere! Winds kicked up to like 50 mph, rain came pouring from everywhere, and hail was driving down on everything! We managed to save our sleeping bags, but after that, I couldn’t go outside since the hail would probably dent my head for life. I had to sit there and watch my bike and all my belongings get drenched–it was truly painful! It was the biggest storm I’ve seen in quite a long time. We ended up getting lucky though, since some nice family invited us into their home for the night–which was great since EVERYTHING was sopping wet! It was our first real shower in a few nights, and damn, it felt great! Things are going great though. It’s amazing how many nice people there are out there, who are actually interested in what you are doing and willing to help you in any way that they can. Who would’ve thought it?!!!
