There is so much to see and do in Australia that one holiday never seems to be enough time to really immerse yourself in this wonderful country. Of course, you can keep to the usual tourist trails and hit all of the regular hot spots, but sometimes the best way to explore a country is to go where the locals go for their weekend trips.
It’s recommended to fly into one of the major airports and hire a car for a few weeks. The daily rate for example of a Gold Coast airport car hire from DriveNow is quite reasonable to start your Aussie holiday.
So with that in mind, here are four offbeat summer destinations in Australia that are definitely worthwhile visiting.
1770 in Queensland: Located on the east coast of Australia in Queensland, 1770 is named after a visit by James Cook in the year 1770 . This is actually a small village on a beautiful, bushland peninsula, surrounded on three sides by the turquoise ocean. With some of the most pristine beaches in Australia and beautiful weather for most of the year, 1770 is the perfect spot to rest and de-stress from your busy life.
Robe in South Australia: Lower down the east coast you will find the charming town and fishing port of Robe. With its seafaring history and historic buildings, this is a lovely spot for a relaxed holiday. Check out the wonderful, sandy beaches or the National Park, go four-wheel driving, try your hand at fishing, and enjoy the locally caught fish and chips for your dinner on the wharf. With plenty of walking trails and water sports, Robe is a little slice of heaven in South Australia.
Aireys Inlet on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria: Loved by the locals for its serenity and tranquillity, you can spend hours simply gazing at the awesome cliffs, walking along the pristine beaches, and catching sight of the abundant bird life in Airey’s Inlet. With miles of beautiful rivers in the area, canoeing and kayaking are popular with the locals, as is the Blazing Saddles horse riding experience and the easy bush walking trails. Of course, you can just chill out with a good book and a glass of wine on the beach if you prefer.
Albany in Western Australia: Keep on going along the Great Ocean Road and eventually you will come to Western Australia; Albany is located around five hours south of Perth. Most tourists stay around Perth or Fremantle, because they don’t know about the beauty of Albany to the south. With year-round balmy weather, spectacular beaches and abundant bird life, walking trails and vineyards, most people come for the weekend and stay for much longer.
There are plenty more offbeat holiday destinations in Australia, but these four will give you a head start for your next Aussie holiday.
