Scuba and Parties….What a Combo

So, we officially did it and got certified! It was actually pretty easy, but we had a really good time. On our last dive, the rest of the group surfaced, and I went back down with Pablo because I had to demonstrate an emergency surfacing for the last part of the exams. When we went back down, we got to see this GIGANTIC eagle ray in mid-flight–a huge kind of Stingray–and an octopus! Pablo was practically laying on his stomach on the ocean floor, peering underneath this rock because he knew the octopus was in there, and he started motioning for me to do the same. Granted, this guy had done over 4000 dives and he is far more comfortable in the water than I am, but I still was a little unsure about laying on the ground and sticking my face up to some dark whole so some unknown creature could come out and eat me! It wasn`t bad that, and the octopus came out when we snuck around and his behind the rock. He was so cute! He was just a little guy, and he was all pink and fuzzy looking. Never thought I could think an octopus was cute, but I did. Now I understand how Pablo can`t eat seafood anymore!

Kamala–our hostel–had their traditional Full Moon party last night, and let me tell you–it was insane! 500-1000 people showed up, and even then, no one really arrived until like 1 in the morning. They had this huge bonfire, and there were all these street performers juggling with fire and doing all these twirly things. It was pretty cool. We were prety “lame” in that we bailed out and when to bed at five this morning, which I had considered to be a strong showing until we got up at 10 and realized that people were STILL out there, going party crazy! It was insane! NO party is ever fun enough to continue through lunch the next day!

Anyway, sad to say, but I think our time in Montanita is finally drawing to a close. The scuba and the beach were wonderful, but I think we are both itching to go somewhere else, which in our case, means Peru! I think we are going to head out tomorrow to Guayaquil, and from there, catch that 24 hour bus to Lima. Definitely not looking forward to hopping back on busses, but what can I say–I want to see some more things!

¡Hasta la proxima vez, mis amigos!
