We´re headed into the Amazon….
Whew! So the last few days have been a lot of fun! On Monday, Steve and I decided to go horseback riding, and we had a ball. The guide took us up to the top of this mountain and the view of Baños was amazing. He then proceeded to take us down this sketchy, windy, tiny dirt trail with lots of loose rock and dirt. Now, I am sure this would have been fine for some expert riders or something, but clearly, Steve and I are NOT cowboys (yet!) We were definitely getting scared at some parts. The horses were all fighting each other for the front position, and the whole time, you are looking down the side of this 2000 meter mountain thinking, “Wow, that is a really long drop.” Steve´s horse even slipped on a loose rock once and kinda stumbled around to catch himself–with Steve on his back, of course! We just had to keep reminding ourselves that the horses didn´t want to fall anymore than we did, so just close your eyes and trust them!
Anyway, we are back in Quito right now, but only for the night. Tomorrow morning we get up and have an 8 hour bus ride to Lago Agrio, a town way over on the eastern side of the country. That´s right, kids, we´re heading into the AMAZON! We signed up for a five day tour in the Cuyabeno reserve, an area way over near the border of Brazil and Columbia. Pretty sweet. We get to go all over in a canoe and go piranha fishing and look for animals and pink dolphins and anacondas and do some stuff with some local indigenous people. Should be pretty tight so I am definitely excited! I will try to post some photos of the piranhas (cause I´ve already determined I will rock at this fishing thing!)
