Not even 24 hours in Ecuador….

….and we already climbed a mountain! Well, actually, it was a volcano called Guagua Pichincha, but still, it was fun! Our hostel was planning a trip with 8 people to go climb it yesterday, but it was already full when we arrived on Monday afternoon. Luckily for us, one of the girls got altitude sickness from being in Quito (elevation 9,500 feet or something close) and so she definitely wasn´t going to make it up the volcano. She pulled out, so her boyfriend pulled out, so Steve and I took their spots. It turned out to be a lot of fun. The best part was that the summit was at 4800 meters, which is the equivalent to 15,800 feet–by far the tallest peak that either of us have climbed before, and taller than anything in the continental 48 states. Pretty cool. We were kinda worried about the altitude ourselves considering that we have been at sea level for like 3 months now, but it wasn´t so bad. Steve got fairly light headed at times, but I didn´t get a headache until we were back in Quito. Oh well. It was definitely worth it. We got to look down into the crater of the volcano from the summit, and even though it was cloudy–and soon raining on us–it was still great!

Other than the climb, haven´t had the chance to do to much else. We are going to the equator tomorrow, so that will be a lot of fun. After that, I think we are going to head to another town, although we are not sure where. We need to figure out a place for CHristmas though, so that is the plan for now!

¡Adios!
