Feliz Navidad!
Definitely different to be spending Christmas in South America! The majority of people down here are Roman Catholic, so they do celebrate the holiday, but it is world´s different from back home. First of all, the big celebration is tonight at midnight. Apparently families get together after mass and do a big dinner and enjoy each other´s company–a far cry from the mass shopping hysteria and desire for presents in the States!
Anyway, Steve and I are in a town called Banos, roughly two hours from the jungle. We made reservations at a restaraunt to have a good Christmas dinner tonight, so that should be fun. I´m not sure what we will do for the next few days we are here, but we have been looking into some tours. They rent horses for $5 an hour, or $20 for the morning, so I am thinking that it would be fun to go tromp around on some horeses for a day. Who knows!
Starting to prepare ourselves for our venture into another country!! We still have a few weeks in Ecuador, but we are starting so set our sights toward Peru. Believe it or not, there is not a lot of noteworthy towns in the northern half of Peru, so we may just take a REALLY long bus to Lima and see how things go after that. Both Steve and I would really like to check out the Nazca lines, and they do plane rides over that, so it is on the “for sure” list. We shall see.
Everyone enjoy their Christmas, and take care of yourselves!!
