Savannah is the most beautiful city I have ever seen!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to post, and so much has happened! From Greensboro, we finally cut down to the coast, and have been riding along the Atlantic ever since. I was so excited when we got to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina–the ocean is my new favorite thing! (Until you remind me of Jaws….but that’s another story) Also, as a side note for anyone who wants to travel, go to Myrtle Beach in the off season–all of the hotels were like $25 a night for these awesome, ocean-view rooms.

Kept cruising after Myrtle Beach and made it down to Charleston, South Carolina, and took a day off to look around the city. We met this family outside of our hotel who thought we were like super heroes or something for riding our bikes, so they took pictures of us–not us with them, just us. Weird. Some random people have photographs of Steve and I with our bikes…..hmmmmm. Anyway, we took a boat tour out to Ft. Sumter, where the Civil War began, and then kinda strolled around the historic district and looked at all the cool stuff. We also managed to make our way into the ghetto so that was lovely. We come cruising through in full spandex and paniers….I’m sure we stood out just a little!

Two days later, and we rocked into Savannah last night. We had a little bit of a death experience riding over this huge bridge where cyclists and pedestrians were prohibited, but we really didn’t have much of a choice. It’s not like we could swim across the flipping river, bikes in tow! We’re staying at this “Internation Hostel” in the historic district, and it’s definitely been a trip. All Americans, of course, and it’s in this realy old, really beautiful building. Our bedroom even has this little balcony overlooking the street, so that’s pretty cool. Unfortunately, the guy who runs the place is a complete spaz. He yelled at Kelly, another guest, for drinking a beer in the TV room last night, and then yelled at me for using my sleeping bag as a blanket while watching TV (this, after he forgot to turn on the heat for us. He thought my bag had bed bugs, and I was like, come on dude, if it had bed bugs, would I really be snuggling up with it?) Then, this morning, I wake up to find him watching TV upstairs in our TV room instead of downstairs in his house. Weird, right? Not only that, but he was laughing hysterically loud at the news on CNN. News isn’t funny. We actually think he was trying to wake everybody up so they would leave for the day. Who knows. Maybe he goes through all of our stuff while we’re gone–I wouldn’t doubt it!

Anyway, like I said Savannah is beautiful. The entire city is filled with unbelievable old houses that have all these bay windows and turrets and balconies and stuff, and the entire city is green with trees and foliage and flowers. I really like it so far.

We finally bought a ticket to South America! We leave on December 12, and fly into Quito, Ecuador! Wahoo!
